Rep. Schiff’s Censure: Letters to the Editor — June 26, 2023

The Issue: The House of Representatives’ censure of Adam Schiff for lies about Trump-Russia collusion.

It was revealing to watch Democratic members of Congress ludicrously cheering pathological liar Rep. Adam Schiff after his censure by the House of Representatives (“Raucous house,” June 22).

They know the Durham report establishes that he and others knowingly lied about Russian interference in the 2016 election.

Even if they truly believe that Durham is incorrect or biased, it is past time for Schiff to come up with the proof he has been touting. Donald Trump, Jr.’s (arguably foolish) meeting with the Russian lawyer could not rationally be considered an indication of collusion.

It is also reasonable to ask why the Russians would prefer a President Trump and his sharp elbows to a likely continuation of American foreign policy under a President Hillary Clinton.

Rep. Schiff’s censure is totally meaningless. It’s time to go after the Big Guy and hopefully remove him from office.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy was wrong to reject Rep. Lauren Boebert’s push to impeach President Biden. She was dead right: Biden’s open-border policy is putting America at risk; the man is not fit to be our commander-in-chief.

What is McCarthy waiting for? His taking aim at the wrong man is hurting our nation.

Former Intelligence Committee Chair Adam Schiff led the Trump-hatred with lies about Russian collusion. So he was rightly censured.

The liberal side of the House shamelessly yelled “Shame!” while Schiff claimed, “It’s a badge of honor.” No: It’s a reminder that no one is above the law.

The House has, thankfully, censured Rep. Adam Schiff. But the man should be charged with much more than that for lying to bring down a sitting president, as he attempted to do.

When are the Republicans going to learn that politics is not what it used to be? They need to get as dirty as the Democrats for this country to survive.

Morals mean nothing to the Democrats; winning is their only goal.

The Issue: New studies suggesting that social media overuse is making teens depressed.

Here we are in a time where talking with someone in person is almost nonexistent (“The new Great Depression,” June 20).

Teens today appear to be incapable of direct social interaction unless they’re with phone in hand. While walking along the boardwalk the other day, I saw several groups of teens on the beach staring into their phones and taking selfies.

They failed to notice that, just a few feet away, a pod of dolphins and two whales were frolicking in the ocean behind them — a spectacular sight indeed. I can only hope that as the world was passing them by on that particular day, they captured the scene behind them in their photos and that they actually noticed it. I hope if they did, it made them pause.

With so many forms of instant communication available to such an impressionable group, this is no surprise. While social media may have certain benefits, constant exposure and overload are creating a “keeping up the Joneses” effect. This is clearly unhealthy.

The very group that encourages “chilling out” is, ironically, unable to do so. It’s very sad.
