Craig Carton’s final WFAN ratings book a dominant showing

WFAN continued to dominate in the New York sports radio ratings battle from morning until night in the final book with Craig Carton, who appeared for the last time on his afternoon show on June 30.

The station continues to be led by “Boomer & Gio” in the morning, which was No. 1 in the market with a 11.1 share for the spring book for men 25-54, the demographic stations traditionally sell advertising against and thus grade themselves on.

While Boomer Esiason and Greg Giannnotti dominated, ESPN’s new 6-10 a.m. show, featuring Rick DiPietro and Dave Rothenberg, did fine with a 3.2 share, good for 13th in the market.

In afternoons, Carton and Evan Roberts went out in second place overall with a 7.0 share, while “The Michael Kay Show” was 14th (3.1).

What started as a seesaw battle between Carton and Kay, turned into a blowout as Carton and Roberts won the last 19 months in a row, giving them 84 percent of the monthly head-to-heads.

Craig Carton is leaving WFAN with one last ratings book win.

Kay and company will get another shot at Roberts with Tiki Barber, his new partner. Barber and Roberts will warm up this summer, but the competition will begin anew in the fall, while Carton moves on to just doing his Fox Sports 1 morning show full time.

Barber and his current partner, Brandon Tierney, tied for fourth with a 5.7 share from 10-2 p.m.

The midday combination of “Greeny,” which often doesn’t include Mike Greenberg, from 10 a.m. to noon, and Bart Scott and Alan Hahn, was tied for 14th (2.4) when they were head-to-head with WFAN.

Now that Barber has been promoted to afternoons, Tierney will be joined by Sal Licata this fall during the midday.

Meanwhile, “The Warmup Show,” with Al Dukes and Jerry Recco, was tied for first from 5-6 a.m., which set the stage for WFAN to dominate from morning to night in the spring book.
