Color us shocked: The liberal press is using just-unsealed federal charges against Gal Luft to disparage the House GOP effort to probe Hunter Biden’s shady business dealings.
Luft, a former think-tank honcho who has alleged numerous Hunter crimes, is now charged with (among other things) failing to register as a foreign agent over his work with Chinese energy outfit CEFC.
That should immediately raise the question of why Hunter faces no charges for his work for CEFC.
Instead, outlets that had been ignoring Luft’s allegations against the Bidens are now claiming it proves no one should consider them.
It’s an understatement to say Luft won’t win the Nobel Peace Prize anytime soon. Yet he’s just the type you get in bed with when you make your money off shady international dealings, as Hunter provably did.
If a veep-turned-prez’s son joining the payroll of a Chinese firm with such characters as this isn’t a national security risk, we don’t know what is.
Hunter also banked far more cash from CEFC: Luft’s think tank got $350,000 a year from a CEFC nonprofit arm, while Hunter and entities associated with him cleared millions (and that’s only what we know about) for his “work” with the for-profit side of the company.
So: What exactly did he do for those millions?
It’s clear to anyone with eyes that he was selling his father’s influence.
Believing otherwise requires believing that a crack-addicted ne’er-do-well suddenly had the business acumen and experience to wheel-and-deal in the global energy industry.
As for the idea that the charges against Luft mean he’s lying: No, even a conviction wouldn’t necessarily mean that, any more than testimony from a small-fish coke dealer against a big-fish coke importer should be dismissed out of hand.
Indeed, Justice sent six officials to interview him in Brussels in 2019. Luft claims that was when he made his claims against Hunter.
And at least one of his allegations — that Joe Biden was present at a meeting with CEFC bigs in DC right after leaving office — has apparently been independently confirmed.
Which means that Reps. Jim Comer, Jim Jordan and others are beyond right to press hard on the issue.
Clearly, what Luft says cannot be taken at face value, given that he and his lawyers are trying to wriggle out of his own legal woes.
But if he’s in possession of verifiable documents or other hard proof of Biden wrongdoings, his own credibility isn’t the issue.
That is why the activist media is wrong to pretend the Luft charges close the case.
But then again, the very same partisan press has been running interference full-time for Biden since before he won the White House.
No reason to expect its members to stop now.
