Inside ‘Barbie’ watch parties with shirtless Kens, blonde extensions, pink drinks — and Botox
These Barbie girls are turning the Big Apple into their Barbie world.
Chelsea-based Carson Light, 25, is gearing up for the Mattel movie this weekend in a dream house filled with Botox, pink cocktails and a girl squad decked in Barbiecore in the Penthouse suite at ModernHaus Soho hotel downtown. She and her gal pals are pre-gaming for the film this weekend with Margot Robbie-inspired glam.
“The girls are getting pampered – we’re bringing facemasks, doing hair extensions, injectables – it’s literally a girl’s dream,” Light, a social media manager, told The Post of celebrating the Greta Gerwig-directed film in style.
New Yorkers are bringing Malibu to the concrete jungle with parties paying homage to the iconic doll and her fantasy Barbieland.
Think blonde hair extensions, food served out of a Barbie Dreamhouse, Botox on offer — and Ken doppelgangers engaging in cosplay while slinging cocktails.
Some have sent out “Save the dates” for “Barbie”-theme parties months in advance, while others rented out an entire movie theater requiring guests to show up to the screening in Barbie-themed attire. Others are even gearing up for bachelorette parties in Malibu, CA.
Botox Barbie
Light and her friends are splurging $7,000 on the Barbie-inspired “Life In The Dream Suite” package, which comes with a “plastic” inspired makeover – in-room injectables like Botox and fillers – hair extensions, Barbie-pink slippers and flowing frosé cocktails from Mezzacorona Ventessa Rosé.
After getting dolled up they’ll hit the town for dinner at Twenty Three Grand restaurant in Barbiecore, of course.
“We’re doing a super high shoe. I obviously have to have a little sparkle. Everyone is getting so excited. I feel like this is our Super Bowl,” Light, who fondly recalls racing around in her life-size Barbie Jeep growing up, said.
She’s also thinking pink with her wardrobe opting for a Barbie pink plaid dress and pink Prada bag to match for her movie look.
Light says she’ll be doing shots of Botox in her forehead and a little lip filler to ring in the occasion – and pose for a photo opp.
“I love the process of getting ready with friends, all of us doing our makeup together, our dresses hung up with pink sequins, it is a penthouse suite that’s literally a dream house. We’re going to make it a big moment,” she said.
Hairstylists have also seen an influx of demand for bleach blonde and pink hair extensions ahead of the film.
“Not only is pink a major color right now, but the iconic Barbie hair looks that Margot Robbie is sporting in the upcoming movie and press tour have already been in such high demand,” Lisa Richards, Founder of New York City-based RPZL, a hair extension and on-demand blowout bar, told The Post.
She said her most popular requests have been ponytail extensions “to achieve the iconic side pony, glamorous half-up-half-down and the thick gorgeous braid, all featured throughout the movie.”
Upper East Side Barbie and Ken
Uptown, Upper East Side-based event planner Claire Messano, 32, is turning her one-bedroom apartment into an immersive Malibu dream house this Saturday before a matinee screening.
She sent out a splashy invitation shaped as a 3-D Barbie pool filled with water weeks in advance. Guests will be greeted with the a giant “Come on Barbie, Let’s Go Party,” installation at the door and a blond-haired, blue-eyed Ken doll look-alike with washboard abs.
He’ll greet guests in an open denim vest (similar to Ryan Gosling’s character in the movie) at the door.
The decor will also be out of the Barbie box – a mini Barbie Jeep and slide with pool will serve as vases for pink florals, while a Barbie Dreamhouse set will be stacked with charcuterie. She even scoured Amazon for pink toilet paper.
“This movie has a hold on society like never before,” Messano told The Post of spending thousands of dollars on her own “Barbie” pre-game party.
“Pink is my favorite color – seeing all of the visuals [from the movie] got me inspired. It’ll be my fun event at home for myself over the summer,” she said, noting guests will get to strut along her 20-foot-long pink carpet.
Brooklyn Brunch Barbie
Meanwhile in Williamsburg, author and journalist Laura Lane and her co-hosts Cat Corcoran and Christina Mannino rented out Williamsburg Cinemas Sunday morning for the screening.
It will be followed by a rooftop “Barbie”-themed brunch filled with confections like pink and white Barbie bagels, pink cans of Swoon’s Barbie pink lemonade and a sea of pink heart sunglasses, where guests are encouraged to dress as their favorite Barbie.
“We’ll just be having a lot of positive female energy. It’s just classic summer fun,” Lane said, of sending out “save the dates” for the pink affair 2 months in advance with 75 people slated to attend.
“Word of mouth really spread. People were so excited they started saying, ‘We need to dress in theme.’ Before I knew it, pictures were being texted around with different Barbie-inspired outfits,” Lane said.
Malibu Bachelorette Barbie
Manhattan-based Lauren Keegan, 29, has been gearing up for the “Barbie” movie since October when she dressed for Halloween as as the blonde, blue-eyed doll she grew up collecting, matching a retro pink dress, a Givenchy bag in the same hue and of course a boxed doll with a similar look.
“My friends have always said I look like Barbie,” Keegan told The Post.
The hype surrounding the movie has also inspired her dream bachelorette party – happening in Malibu next May.
“It’ll be ‘Barbie’-themed leading up to my wedding next September,” Keegan told The Post of jetting to the beach destination.
“We’ll rent a house with a pool and Barbie floats, a pool house and have all the girls be in pink. The weekend will be transformed into Barbieland,” she says.
As for Light, she’s all for an excuse to play dress up and says the Barbie magic is hard to escape.
“Love her or hate her, she’s everywhere – and I’m personally here for it,” she said.
