Brave dog and baby shark spotted splashing together in adorable video
Shark’s best friend?
A dog demonstrated that it didn’t discriminate against other species after it was captured frolicking in the waves with a shark, as seen in a TikTok video with 5.4 million views.
In the clip, posted by @kalalakoala02anka, a stubby-legged black and white pooch can be seen following a baby bonnethead shark closely as it shoots through the shallows of an undisclosed beach.
The adorable scene evokes a shark version of the 1997 family flick “Zeus and Roxanne” in which a dog and a dolphin become close pals.
The apparent interspecies play date made quite a splash on TikTok with one fan writing, “Just a dog walking his shark.”
“This is so cute,” exclaimed another, while one viewer said “Is bro trying to herd the shark.”
Some skeptics wondered if the shark enjoyed the time as much as the canine appeared to, with one concerned viewer writing, “That baby shark is scared for his life.”
However, the poster insisted in the caption that “the baby hammerhead was not harmed at all by the dog!”
“She followed the shark curiously and I kept an eye on both the whole time,” they wrote.
It’s yet unclear if the two species were actually playing. Dogs have been known to befriend a variety of unlikely animals, including hedgehogs, ducks and even tigers.
Scientists have attributed this ability to form interspecies bonds to a special gene absent in wolves that is perhaps responsible for Fido’s status as “man’s best friend.”
Thankfully, it appears that when pooch comes to shove, dogs will seemingly remain loyal to us over oceanic predators.
In February, a mutt in the Bahamas made headlines after jumping out of a tour boat and chasing away a massive hammerhead shark that was lurking nearby.
