After several failed production attempts, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may have found themselves yet another Hollywood venture.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have purchased the screen rights to the popular romantic new release “Meet Me at the Lake,” by Carley Fortune, to turn it into a film for Netflix, The Sun reported.
“I’m so thrilled about working with Netflix and Archewell to bring Meet Me at the Lake to the screen,” Fortune said in a statement to The Post via her publisher, Penguin Random House. “Will and Fern’s love story is dear to my heart, and I can’t imagine a more perfect partnership.”
The Post also has reached out to representatives for Markle and Harry for comment.
The novel, which spent six weeks on The New York Times bestsellers list since its May release, follows a 30-something woman, whose mother dies in a car crash, and her ensuing love story.
Per Deadline, the Canada-set novel explores themes of “childhood trauma, including losing a parent in a car crash, mental health challenges and post-natal depression.”
The book resembles Harry’s own life — his mother, Princess Diana, died in a Paris car crash in 1997. Harry, 38, and Markle, 42, met in their 30s as well, as Markle filmed “Suits” in Canada.
It’s a deal with Penguin Random House that may have cost nearly $4 million, one unidentified source alleged to The Sun.
The potential new project follows the couple’s 2022 Netflix docuseries “Harry & Meghan,” which chronicled their love story and struggles within the royal family, as well as the January release of Harry’s tell-all memoir “Spare.”
According to The Sun’s insider, Fortune’s book especially stood out to the pair.
“The themes of the book gripped the couple, and it was chosen for their first adaptation with Netflix,” the source said.
The couple signed an estimated $100 million deal with Netflix in 2020, with the agreement reportedly requiring them to produce an array of content, such as documentaries, films, children’s shows, docuseries and more.
But many of their ideas have failed to get off the ground.
This may not be the only project they have in the works with Netflix — in June, Page Six revealed that Harry is planning to return to Africa for a documentary.
The subject matter is unclear.
The couple has endured career lows in recent months, having been let go from Spotify after signing a $20 million deal in 2020.
Markle’s podcast, “Archetypes,” which boasted interviews with stars including tennis legend Serena Williams and Bravo honcho Andy Cohen, was not renewed for a second season.
It was the only project the couple produced for Spotify during their two-and-a-half-year partnership, aside from a one-off holiday episode.
And in June, rumors swirled that Markle would sign a blockbuster deal with Dior — which was quickly denied by a source from the luxury fashion house.
