My first kiss was on my wedding day — here’s why our weird choice was the right one
These innocent newlyweds have only just begun.
A Texas couple revealed that they waited for almost 2 years before sharing their first kiss on their wedding day, claiming that waiting made the gesture “even more special.”
Keylin Akuchie told SWNS that she first met her now-husband Eleazer Akuchie at the Christ For The Nations Institute in 2019 and immediately developed a crush on him, though it took Akuchie three years to ask her out on a date.
Owing to their shared religious values, Keylin and Eleazer established “strong physical boundaries,” according to the bride.
“I had never kissed anyone before — I wanted the first person I kissed to be the one I married,” explained Eleazer Akuchie, 25, to SWNS. “We really wanted to know each other and connect emotionally and spiritually before any physical stuff.”
Keylin, 24, and her husband claimed that while everyone was generally accepting of their decision, they did get a few “raised eyebrows.”
“I think everyone thought our choice was weird,” she recalled, claiming that the most common question they got was, “What if they’re a bad kisser?”
But their pre-wedding vow was no cakewalk, according to the couple. They struggled with the temptation to lock lips on many occasions but would find other outlets for their yearning energy, such as going out with friends to distract themselves or engaging in strenuous hobbies together including rock climbing and hiking. If all else failed, they turned to prayer.
“Waiting meant a lot to me because it’s not something that is bad, it’s just something I wanted,” gushed Eleazer. “There are times I wanted to kiss her, but more for her than for me.”
Even though they agreed to refrain from having sex or kissing, Keylin maintained that not all forms of physical intimacy had been eschewed. Permitted acts included forehead and cheek kisses as well as holding hands and hugs.
Keylin and Eleazer became engaged after a year of dating. It was at this time the couple decided that since they had waited this long, “what was six more months?”
The blushing bride and groom admitted to first-kiss jitters on their big day in June 2023.
“The day of our wedding, I remember walking down the aisle and thinking everyone would see me kiss him — what if we miss our lips?,” laughed Keylin, calling the moment “nerve-wracking.”
Her husband admitted that the long-awaited kiss was “weird at first,” but it was “nice.”
The happy couple announced that they have since shared “a million-bazillion kisses a day.”
“Now we get to enjoy the physical aspects of marriage and it’s even more special to have waited,” rued Keylin, who, with her partner, thinks their relationship is proof that chastity builds a strong bond.
“Physical intimacy can be like a band-aid covering up issues,” said Eleazer. “But not having that encouraged us to mature emotionally towards each other.”
