The Mets didn’t belong on the field with the Braves.
It looked like a major league squad going up against a minor league team.
The Mets squeaked out a win Sunday.
Outside of that, the Mets were outscored 34-3 in the first three games.
These Mets don’t look like a team anywhere near the class of the Braves.
The Mets obviously need a big-time offseason ahead, but even with that, it’s impossible seeing the Mets take over the NL East in 2024.
To break down what happened over the weekend, the “diva” comments made by an anonymous Met on Justin Verlander and debate whether the Mets should trade Pete Alonso in the offseason, we bring you a new episode of the “Amazin’ But True” podcast with Nelson Figueroa and me.
‘Amazin’ But True’ Podcast with Jake Brown & Nelson Figueroa:
- BRAVES BEATDOWN: Outside of a 7-6 win Sunday, the Mets were demolished in the first three games. All they got offensively was a Daniel Vogelbach three-run home run. They keep hitting a new rock bottom with a cavalcade of AAAA players that most fans have never heard of. Meanwhile, the Braves have tons of young talent in the lineup and under team-friendly contracts. This team is set for the long haul to go out and win multiple championships.
- DIVA-VERLANDER: Report in our own NY Post came out about a Met saying Justin Verlander was a “diva” in some regards. Is there anything to it? This is stuff that comes out with bad teams. He’s a superstar player and he does things differently. Not everyone is going to be the same.
- ALONSO’S FUTURE: Should the Mets consider trading Pete Alonso in the offseason? Figgie says the Mets should be listening to offers and pull the trigger if they got a good return with major league-ready starting pitching. You can always go out and bring him back after the 2024 season.
- NELSON FIGUEROA SPANISH ACADEMY: Figgie teaches me how to say “last place” and a few other phrases in Spanish. The Mets are astonishingly on the brink of the cellar in the division.
