Myles Jack is calling it quits.
The seven-year NFL linebacker, 27, told the Eagles he would retire Sunday after signing with the team during training camp, per NFL Network.
Jack, who was drafted in the second round by the Jaguars in 2016, spent six years in Jacksonville before signing with the Steelers for the 2022 season.
After the Steelers released Jack in March, the linebacker said he considered ditching the NFL for trade school to become an electrician or plumber since he didn’t have an offer in free agency.
“I like to work. I couldn’t sit at home. I’ve been blessed to make a lot of money. I could retire and sit at the house,” Jack said, according to NBC Sports Philadelphia. “I want to be innovative.”
“If a zombie apocalypse came, I want to be able to build something.”
Jack was called by Eagles general manager Howie Roseman roughly two weeks ago, and didn’t know what to expect when he heard Philadelphia wanted him to work out with the team.
“I got two pairs of drawers, two pairs of sweats, two pairs of socks to my name,” Jack said after a practice. “My bible in my bag. Like, I don’t have anything. I’m staying at the hotel.”
Though he quickly began taking reps with the first-team defense, it appears Jack did not want to write another chapter of his career with the reigning NFC champions.
The linebacker played 29 snaps on defense and three on special teams during the Eagles’ preseason game against the Browns on Thursday.
Jack, a UCLA product, suffered a torn meniscus in September 2015, plummeting his draft stock as concerns about his surgically repaired knee worried teams.
But the linebacker made good on the Jaguars’ pick, earning a four-year, $57 million extension in 2019.
Jack retires with 103 games played, including 95 starts and 396 tackles.
His contract with the Eagles was a one-year deal guaranteeing $1.775 million.
