Alfonso Soriano looks like a new man in retirement with the once spindly ex-Yankee now bulging through his shirt.
Soriano, 47, was listed during his playing days at a svelt 195 pounds, but new photos of him on social media show a serious body transformation for the former second baseman and left fielder.
On Monday, he reposted a photo of him on the field at Chase Field in Arizona for the Perfect Game Classic event with his arms filling out a tight navy blue Perfect Game shirt – his face showing considerable weight gain from when we last saw him in uniform in 2014.
Soriano played 16 seasons in the majors, including seven each with the Yankees and Cubs.
He had two stints in The Bronx from 1999-2005 and then again from 2013-14 after stops in Texas, Washington, and Chicago.
Soriano was a seven-time All-Star, and four-time Silver Slugger, but never won a World Series.
He went from stealing 41 bases in 2002 to seeing his power numbers rise as he got older – hitting a career-high of 46 home runs for the Nationals in 2006.
Soriano finished his career as a .270 hitter with a .819 OPS and 412 career home runs.
He had a chance to have one of the biggest hits in Yankees history as his home run off Curt Schilling gave the Bombers a 2-1 lead over the Diamondbacks in the eighth inning of Game 7 of the 2001 World Series.
Mariano Rivera blew the game in the ninth inning, denying the Yankees a fourth straight world championship.
Soriano looks like he would certainly still have some power in his swing despite hitting .221 in his final season in 2014.
