Four people shot at Oklahoma high school football game as players and fans run for safety in chaotic video
Four people were shot at an Oklahoma high school football game as chaotic footage captured players and fans running for safety on Friday.
The gunfire rang out around 10:15 p.m. at Bill Jensen Field at Choctaw High School during an early season rivalry game between Choctaw and Del City,KOCO 5 reported.
Choctaw Police Chief Kelly Marshall confirmed that four victims sustained gunshot wounds — one of which was a student, she revealed during a press conference.
“I know one younger, possibly high school student, was treated,” Marshall said.
The victim suffered a thigh wound and has been released from the hospital, Marshall said.
The status of the three remaining victims is still unclear.
Police described the shooter as a “black male with a gray hoodie” but said they do not have any suspects in custody.
Three people were detained for questioning, Marshall said.
A Del City Police officer fired his weapon during the pandemonium, Del City Police Chief Loyd Berger said during the press conference.
“I know one of our officers was involved and discharged his weapon,” Berger said. “As far as at who or if he hit anything, I really don’t know.”
An off-duty police officer provided security on the sideline when the gunfire erupted, Berger said.
At least 35 officers from multiple departments in the area responded when the news broke about the shooting.
“The panic kind of came in waves after the initial shots. Just a scary situation,” The Sports Animal reporter Mark Rodgers, who was at the game, told the outlet.
A video posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, from the game’s live broadcast provided by Skordle.TV shows the horrifying moment as Del City led Choctaw 35-25 when the shots were fired in the third quarter.
Players and spectators packed in the stands were then seen bolting for cover in the clip.
“What is going on,” says one of the broadcasters as players and officials on the field are seen running for cover.
“We got people shooting,” the second broadcaster declares as the sound of the gunfire becomes apparent.
As those in attendance are seen in a panic, the in-game announcer is heard telling fans and players to “get down” in the stadium before the clip ends.
Choctaw High School is 25 miles east of Oklahoma City.
