I was a McDonald’s chef — here’s why you should never order a Big Mac
Don’t waste your bread on this sandwich.
To help fast-food lovers save a buck or two, an ex-McDonald’s chef is spilling the secret sauce on why purchasing the joint’s famed Big Mac burger is nothing more than a big ripoff.
“Don’t order a Big Mac; you should be ordering this every time,” begins former Golden Arches insider Mike Haracz in his TikTok hot take, which stacked a supersized 120,000 views.
“A McDouble like a Mac — you save, like, $2,” he continues. “This is the superior way.”
Haracz, who once served as the global chain’s manager of culinary innovation, went on to break down the financial perks of picking the McDouble — comprising two 100% pure beef patties seasoned with a pinch of salt and pepper, and topped with tangy pickles, chopped onions, ketchup, mustard and a slice of melty American cheese — over the much-ballyhooed Big Mac.
The Mac, on the other hand, is made complete with two 100% beef patties, a slice of cheese, lettuce, onions, pickles, a middle bun and the renowned Big Mac sauce. BTW: Haracz previously scored a whopping 3.4 million TikTok views with footage that reveals the tangy spread’s once-classified recipe.
He also recently achieved viral glory for revealing why 10:30 a.m. is “the worst” time to eat at McDonald’s. Haracz’s revelation rang bells across social media, as did his previously viral video detailing how to determine whether a particular Mickey D’s is a “good one” to patronize.
However, now the whistleblower’s “better” burger deal is blowing minds online.
“The McDouble only has one slice of cheese just like the Big Mac,” he said. “There’s no middle bun. It’s so much better and cheaper.”
Meanwhile, his juicy tip left Mickey D’s devotees drooling.
“Best hack,” cheered a fan of the processed fare.
“Order it all the time, so much better flavor,” wrote another, agreeing that the McDouble offered more tastebud-friendly bang for his buck than the Mac.
“Going to get that for lunch tomorrow!!!” announced an equally eager eater.
Unfortunately for Haracz, not everyone was happy with his meal hack.
“Option 2: Don’t go to McDonalds,” snarked a detractor.
“You [still] get charged for lettuce and mac sauce. Those charges make a McDouble the same price as a Big Mac,” groaned another bellyacher.
“The McDonald’s near me charges [an extra $2] to get a [McDouble] dressed like a Mac,” another said.
To that, Haracz created a separate post, shaming the locations that saddle folks with surcharges for minor add-ons and customizations.
“To add lettuce and Big Mac sauce is $2?” he asks. “That math is not adding up correctly.
He adds, “That’s ridiculous.”
