Dave Portnoy loves the Fight Irish quarterback and is putting his money where his mouth is.
Portnoy bet $10,000 on Notre Dame quarterback Sam Hartman to win the Heisman at 20/1 on Barstool Sportsbook, soon to be renamed ESPN Bet.
“I keep talking about this bet,” Portnoy said on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. “I had to place it. There is just too much value. ND is gonna beat Ohio (State) next week, and these odds will be cut in half.”
Portnoy does say that Hartman’s value at 20/1 is too good to pass up, although you can still grab this line at BetMGM at 25/1.
Notre Dame is set to face Ohio State on Sept. 23, although there is no lookahead spread available for betting at the time of this writing.
The Buckeyes have looked shaky in their first two outings to start 2023, going 0-2 Against the Spread and only beating Youngstown by 28 despite being favored by 44.5 points.
For those looking to tail Portnoy, they would likely need Hartman and the Fighting Irish to defeat the USC Trojans on Oct. 14 when they face the current Heisman favorite Caleb Williams.
Hartman has some gaudy stats on his resume thus far, throwing for 731 yards and 10 touchdowns without an interception thrown.

Hartman is on pace for 2,924 passing yards, 40 passing touchdowns and zero interceptions this season.
Williams is pacing at 3,512 passing yards, 48 passing touchdowns and no interceptions while rushing for 244 yards and four rushing touchdowns.
Of course, team success plays a big role and Notre Dame has several big games to play in order to prove Hartman’s candidacy.
