El Chapo’s wife Emma Coronel Aispuro walks free after less than two years over gang charges

The wife of notorious Mexican Sinaloa cartel boss Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán was released from a California halfway house more than a year before the end of her three-year sentence for association with his gang.

Emma Coronel Aispuro, 33, was sentenced to 36 months in federal priso in November 2021 after after pleading guilty to drug trafficking and money laundering conspiracy charges related to her husband’s dangerous Sinaloa cartel.

Coronel was released from custody Wednesday morning, Federal Bureau of Prisons officials told The Post.

BOP officials would not disclose the location of the transitional facility she was released from or where she would go next.

Coronel, a former teenage beauty queen born in San Francisco, was a regular fixture at Guzmán’s Brooklyn federal trial.

She was initially housed at a federal prison in Texas but moved to the transitional facility in California before being released Wednesday.

Coronel, often referred to as a ‘Narco Queen’ before Guzmán’s capture, was also ordered to pay almost $1.5 million in fines in addition to the her prison sentence. She had been arrested on February 2021 at Dulles International Airport near Washington, but at the time it was reported she had voluntarily handed herself over to the feds.

Sinaloa cartel head Guzman had escaped Mexican prisons in 2001 and 2015 before being recaptured in 2016 and trialled in New York.

Guzmán was convicted in 2019 for engaging in a continual criminal enterprise and other counts of distributing tons of cocaine in the U.S. He is currently serving a life sentence at Colorado’s ADX Florence Supermax prison — the most secure facility in the US.

Before her arrest, Aispuro was accused of helping orchestrate her husband’s 2015 escape. Recently Guzmán petitioned a judge to let Coronel and their two daughters visit him at the prison.

“I’m sorry to bother you to ask that you authorize a visit from my wife and bring the girls as well,” Chapo, 66, wrote in a translated version of his letter filed in his Brooklyn federal case.
