Buying a $3.2 million replica of “The Brady Bunch” home might raise some eyebrows — but for art collector Tina Trahan, it’s a treasure trove of nostalgia she wouldn’t trade for the world.
Speaking to People, Trahan spilled the beans on her unique investment, stating without hesitation that she has zero intentions of ever letting go of the property, even if none of the appliances are in working order.
“When I was buying it, I wasn’t thinking, ‘Oh, it was a great investment,'” she quipped. “When I buy art, it’s because I love the art. It’s not because, ‘Oh, I’m going to make money on this.’… If you’re going to make money in art, you have to sell it. I buy art, and then I don’t sell it.”
The Los Angeles property, famously used for exterior shots on the beloved sitcom, had previously been snatched up by HGTV in 2018 for $3.5 million.
The network then splurged nearly $2 million to transform its insides into a perfect replica of the iconic TV abode as part of its 2019 series, “A Very Brady Renovation.”
Fast forward to today, and Trahan swooped in, scoring the piece of television history for $3.2 million, a sizzling deal less than what HGTV initially forked over.
“Never will I ever touch one thing [in the house],” she declared. “I was telling someone, ‘If you [even] bring a flat-screen TV into the house, it’s no longer ‘The Brady Bunch.’ There’s a lot of value in this for a lot of people that care about it. And HGTV put in a lot of time, effort, and money into the house to make it the way it is, and … I find that incredibly valuable. So I don’t know.”
Trahan’s heartfelt connection to “The Brady Bunch” abode runs deep, stemming from her fond memories of growing up with the show.
“It was like, ‘I need this house. I have to have the house,'” she revealed. “I loved the movie… and I watched the show growing up after school. I just felt like it was just part of America and the culture.”
But don’t expect Trahan to whip up a hearty Brady-style meal anytime soon in the kitchen. She humorously noted, “None of the appliances work – the range doesn’t work, the stove doesn’t work, the oven doesn’t work. There’s literally nothing.”
In a separate chat with the Wall Street Journal, Trahan firmly asserted that any modifications to make the house “livable” would “take away from what I consider artwork.”
Instead, she’s got big plans for the house – charity plans, to be exact. “That would be a huge revenue stream for charities,” she said. “It brings so much joy, and it makes so many people happy, just like ‘The Brady Bunch’ did.”
So, there you have it, folks – Trahan, the guardian of a priceless piece of pop culture, is keeping the Brady legacy alive and well.
