Usher to headline 2024 Super Bowl halftime show: ‘Honor of a lifetime’

Usher has been named the headliner for the 2024 Super Bowl halftime show.

“USHER. LAS VEGAS. APPLE MUSIC HALFTIME SHOW. #SBLVIII See you on February 11 on @NFLonCBS!” the NFL tweeted Sunday on X.

In its tweet, the league included a video of Usher, 44, finding out he got the gig, using clips from his “Confessions Part II” music video in 2004.

“It’s an honor of a lifetime to finally check a Super Bowl performance off my bucket list. I can’t wait to bring the world a show unlike anything else they’ve seen from me before,” the “DJ Got Us Fallin’ in Love” singer said.

“Thank you to the fans and everyone who made this opportunity happen. I’ll see you real soon.”

The game takes place Feb. 11, 2024 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

In the big reveal, Kim Kardashian can be seen telling Usher, “You’re playing the Apple Music halftime show in Vegas.”

Kardashian jokingly asks him how she can request tickets for herself, her entire family, her kids, and friends.

Usher follows Rihanna, who headlined the 2023 halftime show.

Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar, Mary J. Blige, Snoop Dogg, Eminem and 50 Cent performed in 2022.

Usher rose to fame in 1997 with his multiplatinum album, “My Way.”

Born in Dallas, Usher released his debut studio album in 1994, “Usher,” at the age of 15.

He rose to fame in 1997 with the release of his second album, “My Way,” which includes hits like “You Make Me Wanna?” and “Come Back.”

It sold 7 million copies, per Biography.

He went on to release “Yeah!” in 2004, “Love In This Club” in 2008, and “OMG” in 2010.

Over the course of his career, he’s won eight Grammy Awards and has been nominated 23 times.

Usher announced a new album titled “Coming Home,” which is expected to drop on the day of the Super Bowl.

The 12-track project will be the first new album Usher has released since 2018’s “A” with Zaytoven.

“Coming Home” is expected to include the song “Good Good,” featuring Summer Walker and 21 Savage.

Earlier this year, Usher spoke about the possibility of performing the halftime show one day.

“I’d be a fool to say no,” he told Access Hollywood’s Scott Evans.

“If things line up the way we would all hope, one day that moment would happen,” he continued. “I’ve had the opportunity to grace the stage in support of ‘OMG’ and Will.i.am but that was one moment.”

Usher performed the Will.i.am assisted “OMG” at the Super Bowl XLV Halftime Show as a guest during the Black Eyed Peas set in 2011.

“I think I have a catalog that obviously speaks for itself, so to be able to celebrate on that day, it’s obviously about football, but everybody really anticipates the performance,” Usher continued.

“Seeing Michael Jackson perform and recently seeing Snoop [Dogg] and [Dr.] Dre … seeing so many incredible performances like Prince… it has always been kind of a bucket list.”

In February, Rihanna performed many of her own hits, including “Only Girl (In the World),” “We Found Love,” and “Rude Boy” — singing on stage for 13 minutes.

She even made a special announcement during the performance, confirming she was pregnant with her second child, as she was clad in a red bodysuit.

The first Super Bowl halftime show was in 1967, performed by the University of Arizona Symphonic Marching Band.
