Charlie Woods added another accomplishment to his burgeoning golf career, with a little help from his dad.
Charlie — with Tiger Woods caddying — earned a spot in the Notah Begay III National Championship on Sunday.
He finished 6-under 66 to win the 14-15 age division of the Last Chance Regional.
“It’s great. We just stay in our own little world,” Charlie, 14, said about his dad caddying for him.
“We take it one shot at a time. He puts me in my place. I’ll talk about the next tee shot and he’s like, ‘No. This is the shot we’re going to focus on. Focus up. This is what we’re gonna do.’”
The Notah Begay III National Championship is slated to take place November 4-6 at Koasati Pines at Coushatta Casino Resort in Louisiana.
Begay is a former PGA Tour pro and former Stanford teammate of Tiger’s.
Charlie recorded birdies on the first three holes and went out in 33.
He had three straight birdies to start the back nine and capped the win with an eight-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole.
“Obviously, this course is great for me,” Charlie said. “Just took it one shot at a time, don’t think too far ahead, and you just gotta keep eating. That’s it.”
Tiger’s presence on the course was a special moment for him and his son, but it was also a special time for those who got to be around them during the day.
Shane Croft, whose son Chase played alongside Charlie, raved about the experience in a post on Instagram.
“Ok, EPIC would in no way be a big enough word to describe today,” he wrote. “Chase was paired with Tiger Woods’ son Charlie at the Notah Begay tournament at Mission Inn. Tiger and I were the boys’ caddies. Honestly, there is no way to express what this was like. Four hours one on one with Charlie and Tiger was just unreal.
“Can’t even thank Ryan Burr enough for orchestrating this entire day. His tournament is so professionally run. Just next level junior golf. Anyway, this will be a story my family talks about on my deathbed one day. And it will be a proud moment for sure.”
