Even the NFL has gone all-in on the Taylor Swift-Travis Kelce era.
The league changed its Instagram bio to “chiefs are 2-0 as swifties,” and it also temporarily used “NFL (Taylor’s Version)” as its bio on X, formerly known as Twitter, according to The Washington Post.
But shortly around noon, the account swiftly removed the line from their Instagram, and now, it’s just a blank space.
A post from the NFL account also posted Sunday that “The @Chiefs are now 2-0 with @TaylorSwift13 in attendance,” while tagging the Next Gen Stats account, after the Chiefs defeated the Jets, 23-20, at MetLife Stadium with Swift in attendance amid her budding relationship with Kelce.
And for some fans on social media, those edits that supported Swift were unnecessary after a close game that featured some questionable calls in the fourth quarter, including a holding penalty on Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner that later resulted in head coach Robert Saleh getting flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct.
The Gardner penalty occurred with the Chiefs facing a third-and-20 — with the Jets trailing by three points and just under five minutes remaining — and was thrown by the official after Michael Carter II intercepted Patrick Mahomes, though replays showed that Gardner appeared to grab Marquez Valdes-Scantling as the Kansas City wideout ran his route.
“To me personally that’s like when you play basketball one-on-one and you go up to make the basket, and they wait to see if you miss, and then call the foul,” Gardner told reporters postgame. “I can’t believe that happened. That was just crazy.”
Earlier in the drive, this time facing a third-and-23, Patrick Mahomes scrambled for 24 yards and a first down, despite Donovan Smith appearing to hold Jermaine Johnson as he rushed toward Mahomes.
Those scenarios allowed the Chiefs to run out the remaining 7:24 with a 15-play, 45-yard drive that followed Zach Wilson’s critical fumble when he mishandled a snap.
That meant Swift had witnessed consecutive wins for the defending Super Bowl champions since she accepted Kelce’s invite to watch a game at Arrowhead Stadium, sparking relationship rumors that were only fueled when the pair left the first game together in Kelce’s convertible and when the tight end spent time at her apartment Sunday morning before the game.
Swift cheered on the Chiefs inside a MetLife Stadium suite on Sunday and was joined by other celebrities, Brittany Mahomes and Donna Kelce throughout the evening.
The NBC broadcast cut to Swift 17 times, according to The Athletic, and Fox made sure to capitalize on her Arrowhead Stadium appearance last weekend, too.
And then the NFL tried implementing the crossover between sports and pop culture into its social media accounts, before quickly pivoting back to a more general presence.
