Most people can’t play this creepy game without screaming — or farting
It’s a real ghastly gas.
A horror-themed video game that can hear players scream is apparently picking up some other involuntary noises as well.
From a spooky forest setting, the aptly titled “Don’t Scream” is poised to make even the most formidable gamers let out an audible yelp in terror — and reset the game when they do. Those who manage to keep their wits about them will end the 18-minute-long quest victorious.
But programmers say another ghastly sound is apparently detectable from the other side.
“A loud fart is considered a ‘scream’ and may restart the game,” the Don’t Scream account posted Monday to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
After all, the game’s description on the marketplace Steam boasts that “it’s the perfect game to scare the pants off your friends and family.”
“You must calibrate your microphone in-game so that every whimper, jump, or even a minor squeak is registered as a scream, increasing the challenge,” the site adds. “With dozens of dynamic scares, each playthrough offers a unique experience.”
Specifically, those with arachnophobia should proceed with caution, the game’s website calls out: “Please exercise caution before playing.”
The endgame, of course, is “to get under your skin, making you feel the suspense and tension.”
However, it seems that relieving such tension, even through a “minor squeak,” won’t yield a high score.
Considering the additional flatulence aspect, some X users seemed compelled to go ahead and raise the white flag.
“This will be a problem for me,” one wrote as another requested clarification: “Above how many [decibels]?”
“Don’t Scream” — already nicknamed “Don’t Fart” by at least one X user — is currently in early access mode as developers continue to add more disturbing elements to the mystery in which players traverse haunted grounds on Halloween night of 1993.
The full version of the game comes out on October 27.
