The captain is a cowboy, after all.
Former Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter tweeted a photo Sunday of him wearing a cowboy hat, two days after passing on the Fox Sports pregame silliness.
Jeter captioned the photo, “Relax!!! It was just a skit.”
The Hall of Famer tried to take the high road during the pregame show Friday before Game 5 of the Astros-Rangers American League Championship Series.
Former Red Sox star David Ortiz embraced the Texas showdown and handed out cowboy hats to his colleagues on the set: Jeter, former Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez and host Kevin Burkhardt.
Said Ortiz to Jeter, “Your head is shining too much.”
Rodriguez went along with the bit, calling Ortiz the “Dominican Garth Brooks.”
However, Jeter refused to put on the hat and looked at it with disdain.
“New Yorkers don’t wear these. New Yorkers don’t do this,” the five-time World Series champion said.
But after two days of catching grief, Jeter apparently softened his stance.
Ortiz, a fellow Hall of Famer and former blood rival, moved past Jeter’s indifference Friday, saying Burkhardt “looks like that guy from ‘Toy Story.’”
Burkhardt embraced being compared to Woody, which had Ortiz in stitches.
Jeter tried to get back in on the fun, saying the Woody comparison is “actually pretty good.”
Jeter began his broadcasting career this summer after walking away from the Miami Marlins in 2022.
The 14-time All-Star seems to have great chemistry with Ortiz, his long-time foe from Boston.
However, the sparks don’t appear to be flying between Jeter and Rodriguez, the one-time teammates whose off-the-field squabbles have been well-documented.
As for the game itself, the Astros rallied for a 5-4 win thanks to a ninth-inning Jose Altuve home run which moved Houston to within one win of returning to the World Series.
The Astros will try to seal the deal on a return trip to the Fall Classic on Sunday with Game 6 in Houston at 8 p.m. ET.
