Boomer Esiason has thrown his hat in the ring for Carl Banks reaction.
Earlier this week, Banks, the two-time Super Bowl champion with the Giants, resigned from his spot on WFAN’s midday program with Brandon Tierney and Sal Licata after Licata hung up on him after 20 minutes of a heated debate about Giants pass rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux.
Esiason’s co-host Gregg Giannotti slammed Banks’ segments as “boring as hell” on Thursday, and then on Friday it was Esiason’s turn to weigh in.
“I thought they [Tierney and Licata] called him and made amends. They apologized to him and supposedly he accepted the apology?” Esiason asked.
“Yeah, he said, I’m fine, I’m good with you guys, and then for whatever reason he went to Gary Myers and told him a bunch of stuff,” Giannotti said.
Esiason asked what Myers did and Giannotti responded that the longtime NFL reporter tweeted out that Banks was “completely disrespected” by the hang-up.
“They called him and apologized and spoke to him, both of them, man to man, like men should do,” Esiason continued.
“Men don’t go out and tattle and put crap on the internet.”
Esiason added that if Banks felt “disrespected”, he should’ve told Licata and Tierney that when they spoke privately.
Meanwhile, something of a side feud has developed between Myers and Giannotti.
In response to the clip where Giannotti called Banks’ segments “boring as hell”, Myers told Giannotti to “stay classy”.
Giannotti responded, “Hey Gary, remember that piece of s–t book you just wrote and begged us to promote on our show? I’m wiping my ass with it with my other hand as I type this. Get a life, slimeball.”
Peter Rosenberg, who co-hosts afternoon drive with Michael Kay and Don La Greca on WFAN’s rival ESPN New York, jumped in the fray indirectly, encouraging his followers to buy Myers’ book, “Once a Giant: A Story of Victory, Tragedy, and Life After Football”.
“Go support the great @GaryMyersNY and his new book about the 86 Giants … great man… great book,” Rosenberg tweeted.
