A Patriots-fueled tantrum was never part of the Raiders’ soul-searching meeting with then-head coach Josh McDaniels.
That’s according to veteran defensive end Maxx Crosby, who recently disputed Fox NFL insider Jay Glazer’s claim that McDaniels was irked by commentary from his eventual replacement, Antonio Pierce, in a cathartic meeting with Raiders personnel before his firing last week.
“I don’t where that came from or where he heard that,” Crosby said on Tuesday’s episode of Barstool Sports’ “Bussin With The Boys” podcast.
“I’m not going to speak on details about what went down in the meeting but he didn’t stand up and like, ‘AP, you can’t talk about the Patriots,’ that’s false.”
Glazer reported Sunday that during the gathering with McDaniels and the team, Pierce spoke about the Raiders developing their own culture, to which he referenced his 2007 Giants squad that topped the undefeated Patriots in the Super Bowl in February 2008.
McDaniels, who previously served as New England’s offensive coordinator from 2006-08, allegedly took exception to those remarks.
“Josh McDaniels then goes over to him [Pierce] and says, ‘Don’t ever talk about the Patriots like that,'” Glazer claimed.
McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler were dismissed in the days following the team meeting and the group discussion left a lasting impression on Crosby.
“It was probably one of the realest meetings I’ve ever had in my life. S–t got, it got real,” he said.
Despite a disappointing 3-5 start to the season, the Raiders rallied behind their new coach on Sunday to thump the Giants, 30-6.
“Blank sheet, new chapter, we write our own script,” Pierce told the locker room postgame. “That’s just one step.”
Pierce and the Raiders (4-5) are hoping to start a winning streak this week when they host the Jets (4-4) on “Sunday Night Football.”
