Brazilian reality TV star Luana Andrade dies after botched knee liposuction
Brazilian influencer and reality TV star Luana Andrade has tragically passed away following a botched operation to remove fat from her knee. She was 29 years old.
The bombshell had reportedly gone to the Hospital São Luiz in Sao Paulo Monday to undergo a knee liposuction operation carried out by a private surgeon and anesthesiologist hired by the family, Globo 1 reported.
Disaster struck after the Sao Paulo native experienced a “respiratory event” and went into cardiac arrest two hours into the surgery, per a statement from the hospital.
Surgeons abruptly halted the procedure and conducted tests on the patient, who was revealed to have suffered massive thrombosis — when blood clots block veins or arteries.
She was subsequently transferred to the ICU, but passed away shortly thereafter at 5:30am Tuesday.
Andrade’s official cause of death was ruled a pulmonary embolism, a sudden arterial blockage that usually occurs after a cloth breaks off from the veins in the leg and travels to the lungs.
The influencer is perhaps best known for her competing on the reality dating show “Power Couple Brasil 6” in 2022 with her boyfriend businessman João Hadad.
Meanwhile, in April Andrade announced on social media that she’d been hired as a stage assistant for the program “Domingo Legal” on SBT. She also modeled and had her own clothing brand.
Unsurprisingly, Andrade was a fixture on Instagram, where she frequently posted fitness and travel snaps for her over 540,000 fans.
Five days before her death, she uploaded a compilation of memorable moments from 2023 with the caption: “It’s not even over yet, and so much gratitude for this year 2023.”
Friends and fans were devastated over Andrade’s passing.
“I am torn apart and living my biggest nightmare,” the influencer’s bereaved beau João Hadad wrote on Instagram. “A piece of me is gone. It is with great regret and a lot of pain in my heart that I say goodbye to my Luana, my princess, my beautiful…”
He added, “It’s been two years by your side and I have no words to express how happy I was… We built a beautiful story and lived our dreams intensely. You are more than a girlfriend and will always be a partner for life my love.”
Hadad also included a black and white photo of the lovebirds holding hands while strolling by the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France.
Brazilian soccer star Neymar also mourned Andrade’s untimely death on social media, Globo 1 reported. “Sad day, with two very bad news,” he wrote. “First there was the attack that Bru’s [Bruna Biancardi] parents suffered, but thank God everyone is safe! Second, the death of a friend. My condolences to the whole family, may God welcome Luana with open arms.”
Neymar was referring to the horrific incident that happened Tuesday morning after the sportsman’s girlfriend, who just gave birth to Neymar’s second child, had her home raided by an armed gang.
While they weren’t at the domicile at the time, the parents reportedly were and were reportedly tied up while the robbers ransacked the house of valuables.
Andrade’s wake was held on Wednesday at the Valle dos Reis Cemetery, in Jardim das Oliveiras, Taboão da Serra.
