Mac Jones seemingly shades Patriots coaches over Hail Mary decision

Mac Jones seemed to take a small shot at the coaching staff after the New England Patriots fell to the Indianapolis Colts in Germany.

Things in New England seem to be getting worse by the week and now the club sits at 2-8 after their latest loss, during which Jones was benched near the end of the game and then questioned a playcalling decision that occurred near the end of the first half.

The play in question occurred with two seconds left in the first half when the Pats opted to go for a short pass instead of the hail mary down 7-3.

“No clue. There’s 2 seconds left and we needed 60 yards so… I don’t know,” Jones said when asked after the game about it.

Boston Globe NFL writer Ben Volin posted on X that Pats head coach Bill Belichick had said in the past that Jones does not have the arm strength to throw a hail mary.

The Patriots eventually turned to Bailey Zappe with 1:52 left in the game and New England down by four.

“I thought it was time for a change,” Belichick told reporters after the game about the decision to take Jones out.

The comment from Jones capped off a rough day for the embattled Patriots QB.

Jones was seen being reamed out by Bill ‘Brien during Sunday’s overseas game and could very well lose his starting job going forward.

Jones went 15-for-20 with 170 yards and an interception in the loss to Indy.

The body language from Jones during the clip didn’t look great after it had been reported earlier in the week that Jones’ decision-making had been “infuriating” people inside the Patriots organization.

The question going forward will now be whether or not Jones retains his starting job.

Belichick was noncommittal about him remaining under center going forward.

“We’ll deal with next week next week,” Belichick told reporters.

The Patriots will have a bye week before returning to the field to face the Giants in Week 12.
