Yair Lapid, the Opposition Leader in Israel, called for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to resign on Wednesday, citing a lack of public trust in the leader amid the war against Hamas in Gaza.
“This government isn’t functioning,” he told Israel’s Channel 12. “We need change — Netanyahu cannot continue to be prime minister. We cannot allow ourselves to conduct a prolonged campaign with a prime minister that the public has no faith in,” Lapid added.
Lapid proposed creating a “national reconstruction government” led by Netanyahu’s Likud party but said the Prime Minister must be replaced.
