The Patriots’ season continues to spiral.
New England has waived defensive back Jack Jones after a tenure that included a team suspension, an airport firearm arrest and disinterested sideline behavior, NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo first reported Monday.
“Certainly we want to thank the Patriot Organization for drafting Jack,” Jones’ agent, Jamal Tooson, told Garafolo in a statement.
“Jack is an immense talent and looks forward to making an immediate contribution on his next team as soon as Sunday.”
Jones, a fourth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, was benched for the first quarter of Sunday’s 10-6 loss to the Colts in Germany — his second benching in two weeks.
Jones, 25, displayed curious behavior while away from the action, sitting on the bench wearing a cape instead of standing on the sidelines.
Patriots defensive back Jabrill Peppers was asked after the game if he would talk to Jones about his sideline behavior.
“No, not yet,” Peppers said, via Mass Live. “But I’ve got a very good relationship with him. I’m going to go talk to him, see where his head’s at. We’ve got a bye week coming up. Chill out and refresh, reload and come back ready to go to New York.”
Before the start of the regular season, Jones was arrested at Boston’s Logan Airport in June and was accused of bringing two guns in his carry-on luggage.
The charges were dropped in September in exchange for one year of probation and 48 hours of community service.
Jones faced a suspension from the Patriots last season over missing a rehab assignment.
His agent said the matter was a result of a “miscommunication” between the player and the team.
It’s been one disaster after another for the 2-8 Patriots.
As the losses continue to pile up in New England, rumors have swirled that Bill Belichick’s job could be in jeopardy.
“Well, I just do the best I can every day,” Belichick said Sunday with regards to his job security.
The Patriots will visit the Giants on Nov. 26 following their bye week.
“This is our 30th year that I’ve had the privilege of owning this team, and I’ve never been 2-7,” Pats owner Robert Kraft said before Sunday’s game. “So it’s really disappointing and I hoped that things would be a lot better, as I know our fan base did. And I hope today is a chance to reset and make this a much better year. This isn’t what we were expecting to happen this year.”
