There seemed to be more positive news for Tiger Woods and his ongoing recovery from ankle surgery he had in April.
Woods competed over the weekend in the PNC Championship pro-am in Orlando with son Charlie and walked all but one round with no pain in his ankle.
He has been dealing with pain in other areas, but things seemed to be moving in a better direction for 2024 for the famed golfer.
“I’ll be able to walk and play,” Woods said, according to the Associated Press. “We’ve been working out hard, been able to recover. We’ve been training every day, which is great. It’s been nice to knock off a lot of rust and some of the doubt that I’ve had because, quite frankly, I haven’t hit a shot that counted in a long time.
“Having to post a score and hit shots on the right number, and hit shots with consequence, it’s been nice.”
Woods played in two tournaments this year – participating in the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas and the PNC championship – and he’s hoping to be able to play a tournament a month in 2024.
He’s hoping to start in February with the Genesis Open and then go forward from there.
Then, eyeing The Players Championship, the Masters, the PGA Championship, the U.S. Open and the Open Championship.
“I know if I can practice, I know I can still do it,” Woods said, according to Yahoo Sports. “I can still hit the golf ball. I can still chip. I can still putt. Granted, it’s also putting it all together for 72 holes. That’s the challenging part of it.”
Woods had surgery on his right ankle to deal with post-traumatic arthritis as a result of a 2021 car crash that he was involved in. The legendary golfer has appeared in just six events since the horrific accident in early 2021.
