McDonald’s debuts 12 Squishmallow Happy Meal toys — with a hi-tech twist
McDonald’s is about to get squishy.
Squishmallows toys will soon come included with Happy Meals across the country — but they’re more hi-tech than they first look.
McDonald’s excitedly announced the news this week, saying they’ve partnered with Jazwares and Universal Music Group to create 12 exclusive Squishmallows Happy Meal toys.
Thanks to Universal, each of the 12 toys has its own music playlist which can be accessed by scanning a QR code on the side of a Happy Meal box.
The tunes have been “carefully curated based on each Squishmallow’s unique and fun personalities,” according to the fast food giant.
“We’re all about connecting our fans to culture and Squishmallows are some of the hottest toys out there right now,” Tariq Hassan, McDonald’s USA Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer, said in a statement.
“This collaboration welcomes McDonald’s and Squishmallow fans alike to enjoy this one-of-a-kind experience with the first McDonald’s Squishmallows Squad.”
Since their release in 2017, the soft and adorable Squishmallows have become some of the hottest toys on the market.
In the past six years, toy company Jazwares has released over 1,000 Squishmallows characters with unique names and background stories.
From Dec. 26, US collectors can add the 12 new McDonald’s creations to their collection.
Iconic Squishmallow characters such as Cam and Fifi will be part of the lineup, as well as the beloved McDonald’s character, Grimace.
One of the possible Squishmallows is a “surprise mystery character” that select fans could unwrap in their kids’ meal, according to a press release.
McDonald’s partnered with Jazwares to release different Squishmallows toys in other global markets earlier this year.
The collaboration was a huge success, prompting the two companies to work on the new line for the US.
“The Squishmallows Happy Meal has taken the world by storm,” Gerhard Runken, Senior Vice President of Brand & Marketing at Jazwares, said. “We are excited to bring the program to our millions of fans in the U.S. with fun new ways to collect and connect with the Squishmallows brand.”
Fans have the opportunity to collect all 12 for a limited time, while supplies last.
