Meghan Markle isn’t in the ‘insane’ ‘Suits’ group chat: ‘We don’t have her number,’ co-star says
The Duchess has left the chat.
Meghan Markle, 42, is not part of a texting group chat with the rest of her former “Suits” co-stars, Gina Torres revealed ahead of a cast reunion at Sunday night’s 2024 Golden Globes.
While walking the red carpet outside the Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills, Torres, 54, who co-starred in “Suits” as Jessica Pearson (and got a short-lived “Suits” spinoff, “Pearson”), told Variety, “Our text thread is insane right now, so it’s very exciting.”
But when a reporter asked which member of the “Suits” cast texted Markle, she said, “We don’t have her number. We just don’t.”
The cast of “Suits” will have a mini-reunion at the Golden Globes, because series stars Gabriel Macht and Patrick J. Adams are both presenters at the star-studded ceremony.
While walking the 2024 Golden Globes red carpet, Adams told ET about the text chain, “Mostly, I’m just trying to get Gabriel to respond. Honestly, he’s slow on the text and he has like six different numbers now because he lives in England. So, we’re just trying to find out which number works.”
The show saw a staggering surge in popularity over the summer when it debuted on Netflix in the US. It snagged 3.1 billion viewing minutes in its opening week on Netflix and Peacock and 3.7 billion viewing minutes the following week — a streaming record for an acquired series.
“Suits” aired on USA Network from 2011 to 2019, lasting nine seasons, with Markle — who played paralegal-turned-lawyer Rachel Zane — meeting and marrying Prince Harry during the later part of its run, and leaving the show in 2017.
“Somehow it got hot on TikTok and then, when it got on Netflix, they will suggest/push a show on you and that was a huge thing,” series creator Aaron Korsh told The Post in August, about the show’s surge in popularity.
“And, obviously, there’s some component of people being fascinated to see what Meghan was like before she was married to Harry.”
In November, Markle reacted to the show’s newfound popularity.
“Isn’t that wild?” she told Variety.
“It was great to work on, such a great cast and crew,” she shared. “We had a really fun time. I was on it for seven seasons, so quite a bit. But it’s hard to find a show you can binge-watch that many episodes of these days, so that could have something to do with [the new popularity]. But good shows are everlasting.
“My husband is loving it, too. It’s really fun,” she added, without clarifying if Prince Harry loves “Suits,” or loved the show’s sudden resurgence over the summer.
Amid this public interest in “Suits,” a revival is not out of the question — but Markle would probably not be in it, executive producer Gene Klein said.
“I’d be surprised if we could thread that needle for a reunion, but I’d also be delighted if that happened because [when] you do a show for that long, everybody becomes such a good friend,” he told TVLine.
In October, it was announced that a new show set in the world of “Suits” is reportedly in development, according to Deadline.
Showrunner Aaron Korsh is partnering with NBCUniversal for the as-yet-untitled series.
The outlet added that the show will have a new cast — so, it seems unlikely that Markle will return to her pre-royal roots.
And now, Torres has revealed that she’s not even in the cast group chat.
“She’ll see. She’ll watch [the Golden Globes], she’ll be happy that we’re here,” Torres said.
The Golden Globes airs Sunday, Jan. 7 at 8 p.m. on CBS.
