‘The View’ hosts bash Taylor Swift, defend Jo Koy against Golden Globes backlash: ‘Just smile’
“The View” hosts think Taylor Swift should have just shaken off Golden Globes host Jo Koy’s joke about her on Sunday night.
On Sunday night, the mega-popular pop star seemed unimpressed and sipped her alcoholic beverage after the comedian referenced her attendance at boyfriend Travis Kelce’s games. Koy quipped, “The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL? At the Golden Globes, we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift. I swear.”
“For the first time, stand-up comedian Jo Koy took on the hosting duties, and it was a rough room for him,” Whoopi Goldberg, 68, said before showing a clip of Koy bombing when he described “Barbie” as being about “a plastic doll with big boobies.”
“These gigs, these hosting gigs are brutal. They’re just brutal,” four-time Oscars host Goldberg said. “If you don’t know the room, if you’ve not been in these rooms before and you’re thrust out there, it’s hit or miss … I don’t know whether it was the room or the jokes, I didn’t get to see it, but I do know that [Jo is] as good as it gets when it comes to stand-ups.”
During his monologue, Koy told the crowd, “I got the gig 10 days ago. You want a perfect monologue? Yo, shut up … I wrote some of these, and they’re the ones you’re laughing at.”
Aside from Ana Navarro, who said that Koy “wasn’t funny” to her, all of “The View” co-hosts defended him, with Sara Haines calling him “kind” and “good.”
“What bothers me more in watching this is, get a sense of humor, because we need to protect these national treasures called our comedians because life needs them,” Haines argued, adding, “No one feels sorry. Just smile.”
Alyssa Farah Griffin even deemed Koy a “nice person” who is “one of my favorite guests we’ve had on the show.”
But then Sunny Hostin asked Farah Griffin, a huge Swiftie, whether she thought Koy’s joke was “that bad” and warranted Swift’s glaring reaction.
“I was a little surprised,” Farah Griffin admitted. “I thought that was kind of a lay-up. I thought [Jo] got very good as the night went on.”
The Post has contacted a rep for Swift and Koy for comment.
Despite the “Karma” singer’s reaction, Koy claimed Monday he has no regrets about the joke.
“We didn’t understand why they were upset and we were just like, ‘Okay, the joke was NFL.’ (The) NFL is using that for cutaways, which is great, bringing a lot of publicity to the NFL. The joke was like, ‘It’s fewer cutaways to her,’” he explained on Los Angeles news station KTLA.
Koy also appeared on “Good Morning America” on Monday, admitting he felt “hurt” by the criticism he’s received after his hosting stint.
Meanwhile, the internet can’t get enough of trying to decode what Swift, Selena Gomez and Keleigh Sperry (Miles Teller’s wife) were gossiping about in a behind-the-scenes moment at the Globes.
