5 hurt in crane collapse at NYC construction site: NYPD
Five people were hurt — three seriously — when a crane attached to a small boom truck collapsed in Upper Manhattan Tuesday afternoon, cops and fire officials said.
The crane went down around 2:30 p.m. at a construction site on Ninth Avenue near West 207th Street, police said.
Five people — all of whom are believed to be construction workers — were injured, according to cops.
Three of the injuries were serious but non-life-threatening, while two were minor.
Video shows FDNY and NYPD vehicles lining the street surrounding the area where the white Cormach crane collapsed.
Twelve FDNY units, including 60 firefighters and EMS workers, responded to the scene, according to the department.
The Jay Group closed on a $92 million construction loan to complete an 18-story residential building at the site this past fall, New York YIMBY reported.
The permits indicate that a 211,000-square-foot building would be constructed there, including 191,000 square feet of residential space, 270 rental apartments and 20,000 square feet of commercial space on the lower level, according to the report.
Just last month, a worker was hit on his left shoulder by an aluminum beam while a co-worker was framing the sub-cellar floor, online Department of Buildings records show.
