Why you should prioritize orgasms in 2024, according to a psychotherapist

This year, we’re making our own happy endings — literally.

A popular psychotherapist on social media has revealed the secret to a happier 2024: more orgasms.

“Having orgasms improves your mental health,” the self-care coach and content creator, who goes only by Lakiah Edwin-Bankston, said in a recent TikTok video.

Prioritizing “self-pleasure” with “proper boundaries,” she explained, “completely changes your life.”

“It improves your body confidence and helps you develop a healthier body image,” she continued.

“It improves your sleep by releasing a whole bunch of endorphins. If you’ve been trying to figure out how to increase your happiness, orgasms do that, too.”

Previous research has linked sex to better shut-eye but orgasms — by your own hand or someone else’s — release mood-boosting norepinephrine, oxytocin and dopamine that can lower stress and anxiety, as well as improve cognition.

Better yet, female orgasms can also benefit pelvic health, experts told Vogue.

“The uterus is a muscle that needs to be used and exercised, and people should care as much about keeping it strong as they do the rest of the body,” said certified nurse midwife and Nettle Wellness founder Jo Zasloff.

They’re the gift that keepings on giving — the big O keeps breakouts at bay and improves your complexion because of the rise in estrogen levels, which helps maintain collagen, the protein that makes your skin look youthful and plump. Talk about a post-coital glow.

And, because orgasms lower blood pressure, they also, in theory, can be anti-aging, according to Glamour.
