Jimmy Johnson delivers Cowboys fiery message after first-half calamity

Jimmy Johnson coached the Cowboys to two Super Bowl titles and he was steaming after an ugly first half performance against the Packers

The Cowboys were limited to just seven points in the game’s first 30 minutes, and during the Fox halftime show, Johnson gave viewers a taste of what he’d say if he were still coaching after the rough opening half.

“I don’t need to have pointing the fingers one thing or another,” Johnson said. “You get your rear end in there and you play the way you know how to play. We can win the game. We’re going to open it up. We’re going to go fast tempo. Defense, get after Jordan Love. You can’t give him that much time. You do what you’re supposed to do and we’ll win this game.”

The speech was enough to fire up fellow halftime analyst Michael Strahan, who pretended to rip open his suit jacket and lined up in a three-point stance.

The Cowboys were down 27-7 at the end of the half and opened up the second half by scoring on a 34-yard field goal.

Things have not been going well in Dallas since the mid-1990s, and losing in the divisional round has been a frequent occurrence for quite some time.

The Cowboys have not made it past the divisional round since 1995 when they won Super Bowl XXX, which was also the franchise’s last Super Bowl championship.

Johnson went 44-36 during his five-year run in Dallas and coached the Cowboys to back-to-back championships.

The Cowboys went to the playoffs during three of those five years he was at the helm.

Johnson went on to coach the Dolphins from 1996 to 1999 and then moved to the broadcast both as a part of the Fox broadcast team.
