The Dodgers have dished out more than a billion dollars in a historic offseason.
It was highlighted by the signings of Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
To react to a very busy offseason and what the expectations are for this star-studded roster, Dodgers GM Brandon Gomes was this week’s guest on “The Show” podcast with Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman.
‘The Show’ podcast with Joel Sherman & Jon Heyman:
- MARCUS STROMAN: Yankees sign Stroman to a two-year deal. They still need another starting pitcher. They don’t have enough depth. Stroman’s character is a big question. Didn’t love the rest of the market. Would not bring Blake Snell to NY.
- TOP SIGNINGS: Love what the Phillies did bringing back Aaron Nola. Like the Diamondbacks signing Eduardo Rodriguez. Like them trading for Eugenio Suarez. Like the Rangers signing Tyler Mahle. They go through the teams that have had the best offseason.
Brandon Gomes Interview:
Dodgers GM
- OHTANI: Confident he will be able to pitch at some point when he is cleared by doctors. The deal checked a lot of boxes for them. It allowed them to add more talent and flexibility to put the best team out there. Winning was first and foremost for him.
- YAMAMOTO: He has multiple weapons to get guys out. His stuff and command is special and he cares about his body and routine. This is somebody you want to bet on long term. He wanted to win like Ohtani does.
- EXPECTATIONS: Every year the goal is to win the World Series. Don’t see a difference. A great offseason doesn’t guarantee anything. It’s a talented team and now have to perform.
- REST OF OFFSEASON: Opportunistic, but if spring training began tomorrow, they are very happy with their team.
