Rob Lowe texted Bradley Cooper congratulations thinking it was Robert Downey Jr. after his Golden Globes 2024 win
Celebrities, they’re just like us — they mix up their A-list friend’s phone numbers.
Rob Lowe admitted to embarrassingly sending a text to Bradley Cooper instead of Robert Downey Jr. to congratulate the “Oppenheimer” star on his Golden Globes win.
“Downey does this amazing acceptance speech at the Golden Globes, and I’m so excited for him so I text him, ‘So glad you won. That is the most beautiful acceptance speech I’ve heard in a long time. Boy, do you deserve it,’” Lowe told Jimmy Kimmel on Wednesday.
“I hit it and I realize, ‘Oh s – – t. I just sent that to Bradley Cooper,'” Lowe said.
While Cooper was nominated for two Golden Globes last week, he lost for best actor in a drama motion picture to Downey Jr.’s “Oppenheimer” co-star, Cillian Murphy.
The “Parks and Recreation” star attempted to fix the situation by sending Cooper another text.
“I said, ‘No, no, I meant that for Robert Downey Jr,’” he recalled writing before realizing the message made things even more awkward.
“Now that’s even worse! I made the guy feel worse! It was terrible,” he laughed.
Lowe explained the massive blunder happened because he had “inputted the wrong numbers into the wrong names” on his phone.
Kimmel, who will host the Oscars in March, told Lowe that it is now possible to unsend texts, to which the actor replied. “I didn’t know! Now I know.”
Lowe said he gave it one more go and tried texting Downey again, but that message also went to the “Hangover” star.
“Does he just think you’re crazy?” Kimmel asked.
Thankfully, Lowe insisted that Cooper was a good sport about the mix-up.
“He literally said, ‘No, no, no. It’s fine. I like living vicariously through these mistakes.'”
The Post has contacted reps for Downey Jr. and Cooper for comment.
“Oppenheimer” won five Globes on Monday. Cooper is a six-time Golden Globe nominee, but he has never taken home one of the golden statues.
Downey is now a three-time Golden Globe winner.
