Eagles’ Fletcher Cox goes after ‘clown’ reporter over Nick Sirianni question
Fletcher Cox won’t tolerate questions about the future of Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni.
The Eagles’ All-Pro defensive tackle fired back at a reporter who asked him if he’s heard the rumors about Sirianni’s job security, and if he has confidence in the coach after Philadelphia’s 32-9 season-ending wild-card loss to the Buccaneers on Monday.
“Have you, you know, gotten any wind of what’s going to happen with Nick?” the reporter asked Cox while at his locker Wednesday afternoon.
“Do you have confidence that if you do come back, confidence in him if he’s also the head coach?”
Cox looked over at the reporter — who was not seen in the video posted by NBC Sports Philadelphia on X — and said: “Like any news about — what about Nick?”
The reporter explained, “There’s obviously been some speculation about whether he may be fired or not, um,” to which Cox said: “Huh?”
“C’mon man. Man, he’s the head football coach of this team. … C’mon man, we ain’t even — that ain’t even no f–king discussion.
Cox seemed frustrated, but the reporter continued their line of questioning.
“OK, OK, you don’t think it’s going to happen,” the reporter asked.
“I don’t got nothing to say about that man. You’re a clown, bro,” Cox said. “Get out of my face, bro.”
When asked if he was unaware of “the discussion about Nick’s future,” Cox stood up for his coach, despite the second-half implosion.
“Come on man, what is there to talk about?” he said. “This man, he’s a winner. He’s a winning head coach.
“Did we have some bumps this year? Yeah … but everybody goes through it. But we don’t look at the man who obviously has won 10-plus games two years in a row — that’s taken this organization to three playoff appearances three years in a row. That’s respect.
“He’s a good leader for this team. He does a really good job … I don’t discuss about firing a man. This man got a family.”
Eagles All-Pro center Jason Kelce also backed Sirianni and explained why he’d like to see him return.
“I love Nick,” Kelce said. “I think Nick’s a great coach, I really do. I think he’s a great head coach.
“Obviously, nobody was good enough this year and I wasn’t, none of the players, none of the coaches were good enough down the stretch. That’s the reality of this business. When you’re that bad it’s a collective thing, but I’ll always have faith in Nick Sirianni.”
Kelce told his teammates in the locker room after Monday’s season-ending loss that he is retiring, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Kelce clarified on his “New Heights” podcast on Wednesday that he will announce his future plans when the time is right.
Some called the Eagles’ downfall this season the worst collapse in franchise history.
Philadelphia went 1-6 to end the season after a hot 10-1 start, leading to rumors that major changes are coming — including a potential head coach change.
Sirianni said he wasn’t thinking about that after Monday’s loss.
“I’m thinking about the guys,” he said. “Again, there’s a lot of guys in that locker room, all the guys in that locker room, every single one of them that put their heart and soul into this.
“I’m not worried about me.”
