Boomer Esiason, Gregg Giannotti find out live on WFAN they booked the wrong Randy Moss

Boomer Esiason and Gregg Giannotti found themselves in a surreal Super Bowl 2024 snafu on Tuesday morning.

Every year for Super Bowl week, former NFL stars flood the host city, partner with sponsors, and go from show to show exchanging interviews where they plug the products before answering questions about football.

So it was that the WFAN morning drive show found themselves in a conundrum that they booked the wrong Randy Moss.

In fact, producer Al Dukes had booked not the former NFL great wide receiver of Vikings and Patriots lore, but instead NBC Sports horse racing analyst Randy Moss.

Giannotti asked Dukes what product Moss would be promoting in the interview and Dukes responded that it was “something having to do with horse racing.”

Esiason, being familiar with Moss, realized right away what had happened as the horse racing analyst also used to work at NFL Network.

WFAN mistakenly booked NBC horse racing analyst and former NFL Network broadcaster Randy Moss thinking he was the former NFL great.

“Are you sure this is the right [Randy Moss], not the other Randy Moss?” Esiason asked.

It didn’t appear as though Dukes was doing this as a bit, as he seemed genuinely surprised.

“Is there another?” the producer responded.

Both Giannotti and Esiason said there was an “announcer Randy Moss” who covers horse racing, and Dukes said, “Please tell me that’s fake.”

Dukes said he would be canceling the interview while Giannotti laughed that it would’ve been a lot funnier if they hadn’t realized before Moss came into the studio that it was the wrong one.

“I was thinking, like there’s no way Randy Moss was coming here,” Esiason said, noting that their studio for the week is separate from the central radio row.
