Allegations that Red Bull Formula 1 boss Christian Horner behaved inappropriately toward a female colleague has his wife, Geri Halliwell, in “floods of tears.”
Red Bull said Monday it is investigating Horner, the chief of the energy drink company’s F1 team that features reigning three-time champion Max Verstappen, after he was accused of misconduct.
Horner, 50, has denied wrongdoing.
The 51-year-old Halliwell, who rose to fame as Ginger Spice in the Spice Girls, is standing by her husband, according to The Sun, which reported she was telling friends she didn’t believe the allegations.
“Geri has been in floods of tears all weekend while looking after her kids,” a source close to Halliwell told The Sun. “She is insisting Christian has done nothing wrong.”
The couple has been married since 2015 and share a son; they each have a daughter from previous relationships.
Red Bull said an external lawyer is running the investigation.
“The company takes these matters extremely seriously and the investigation will be completed as soon as practically possible,” Red Bull said in a Monday statement. “It would not be appropriate to comment further at this time.”
The Sun reports that the allegations could jeopardize his role as the principal of Red Bull’s Formula 1 team, a role he’s held since 2005.
Horner led former F1 driver Sebastian Vettel to four straight championships from 2010-13.
Horner is still allowed to work during the probe and is preparing for the beginning of the 2024 Formula 1 season next month at the Bahrain Grand Prix.
