Bizarre 16-carat diamond ‘lip’ jewelry aims to end stigma — about cold sores
From drug stores to diamonds.
Not only are cold sores annoying, but the tiny blisters around the lips can lower one’s self-esteem and be a source of embarrassment.
A 2022 survey by Abreva found that two-thirds of young people admitted that their self-esteem and confidence decline when the viral infection becomes visible around their mouth.
But the cold sore cream brand is trying to end the stigma — in style.
Abreva is encouraging consumers to embrace their cold sores and make them shimmer with a bold — and bizarre — one-of-a-kind pair of diamond lips.
“The bejeweled piece is fashioned to destigmatize a condition that many are ashamed to discuss, let alone flaunt,” a press release said.
The highly coveted 16-carat diamond lips are made of 197 lab-grown diamonds sculpted and set within white gold, complete with a single ruby to signify the cold sore.
It’s designed to be worn after the cold-store stricken lips are healed with the help of Abreva.
“Abreva understands the emotional and physical impact of cold sores, and is committed to changing the narrative among young cold sore sufferers – the spark of which starts with a little sparkle,” Lauren Smith, Global Marketing Director at Haleon, said in a statement.
“The diamond lips are a physical manifestation of the bold confidence and individuality Abreva aims to inspire when dealing with a cold sore – an experience made easier with the help of Abreva’s relief-providing solutions.”
Abreva was first inspired by the viral #diamondlip TikTok makeup trend, originally made popular by Eva Larosa, and now the #icymakeup trend.
Cold-sore sufferers interested in donning the bejeweled lips can enter to win the exclusive jewelry piece — which was brought to life with the help of Verstolo Fine Jewelry — from now through Feb. 29.
One grand prize winner of the sweepstakes will receive the 16-carat lips, and 25 first prize winners will receive a sterling silver lip necklace with a single gemstone to signify the cold sore.
All sweepstakes winners will also receive an Abreva Cold Sore Cream and Rapid Pain Relief product.
