The few spots that are up for grabs in projecting the Yankees’ Opening Day roster

It’s finally just about that time.

After a long offseason, which began with an unusual month of October in which they were forced to watch the entirety of the playoffs from home, the Yankees are days away from getting a fresh start with pitchers and catchers reporting to spring training on Wednesday. Position players will follow five days later, though many of them already are working out at the club’s player development complex in Tampa.

The real games won’t start for another seven weeks, but before we find out who is in the best shape of their lives (the real story would be if someone admitted they were not), who added which pitches and who tweaked their swings, it’s time to take a first crack at projecting the Yankees’ Opening Day roster.

If everything goes according to plan, there might be just two or three roster spots truly up for grabs on the 26-man roster.
