Trump says he should be let off the hook in classified documents probe — like Biden: ‘WHY ARE THEY CHARGING ME’
Former President Trump wasted no time making hay of special counsel Robert Hur’s decision not to bring charges against President Biden for mishandling classified documents.
“WHY ARE THEY CHARGING ME,” he demanded to know Saturday in Truth Social post. “I DID NOTHING WRONG??? PRESIDENTIAL RECORDS ACT! A TWO TIER SYSTEM OF JUSTICE. THIS IS AN ATTACK ON SLEEPY JOE’S POLITICAL OPPONENT, ME. IT IS LARGE SCALE ELECTION INTERFERENCE.”
The message came after Trump spoke out about the special prosecutor’s report Friday evening.
“If Biden is not going to be charged, he said, that’s up to them, you know, look, if he’s not going to be charged, that’s up to them, but then I should not be charged,” Trump told a gathering of the National Rifle Association.
Trump then defended his alleged mishandling of classified documents as covered under the Presidential Records Act and called his actions “peanuts by comparison.”
The former president is facing 91 federal and state charges across across four distinct criminal cases which will remain in full swing during the 2024 presidential campaign.
Among his charges are mishandling classified documents — something Trump special counsel Jack Smith has elected to prosecute to the fullest extent of the law.
While the report from Hur cleared Biden of official wrongdoing, its claim that he would be mentally unfit to stand trial has sent shockwaves through official Washington, raising fresh questions about whether he will be fit to run for reelection this year.
