The Wildcat concludes his 27th season in The Post.
From 1997-2022, Cat’s record in print stands at 694-604-4.
Kansas City Chiefs (+2) over San Francisco 49ers
Cat’s regular-season record with the Chiefs was unfulfilling, to say the least. In Week 13, giving six points, the Chiefs lost to the Packers outright.
Then, four weeks later, Cat took the Bengals, getting points … the Chiefs won, but did not cover. Meh. But once the playoffs started, the fortunes of both the Wildcat and the Chiefs turned. Giving points in the wild-card round, then getting them in the divisional and conference final rounds, the Chiefs sustained Cat’s faith in them throughout.
Why stop when you’re on a roll? K.C. should manage to carry this day against the 49ers contingent. Niners QB Brock Purdy remains an above-average quarterback in our eyes … but be that as it may, we continue to believe that at this point — and given the state of both sides’ supporting casts — Chiefs QB Pat Mahomes is better equipped to make the most of this opportunity.
Andy Reid and his stouthearted men will have more than enough left to close out San Francisco’s Kyle Shanahan and his multi-talented team.
If you’re inclined to bet the total, we would suggest the Over (currently at 47.5). They’re in Las Vegas’s domed Allegiant Stadium, with two weeks’ rest and preparation. A close contest is broadly anticipated, but Cat’s looking for a Kansas City win, even without the points.
