Democrats who care about their party need to step up and tell the truth about Biden

It’s time for senior Democrats to face facts: Joe Biden can’t possibly serve another four years as president, and hopeless challenger Dean Phillips shouldn’t be the only one doing something about it.

The White House is scrambling to discredit special counsel Robert Hur’s revelation that Biden was showing memory problems as early as 2017 — and more recently “did not remember when he was vice president” and “did not remember, even within several years, when his son Beau died.”

But Biden himself keeps demonstrating his mental decline, whether he’s confusing the long-dead former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl with his modern successor, current French President Emmanuel Macron with ’80s prez Francois Mitterrand or Egypt and Mexico.

Democrats know Biden is teetering on the edge of full-blown senility; they need a better option, and Vice President Kamala Harris isn’t it.

Not only does she have the same communication problems as Biden, but voters like her even less.

So big names like Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and California Gov. Gavin Newsom must step up.

Both are nationally known figures who seem to be dutifully waiting their turn to run for president, but the time for blind loyalty is past.

They need to get ready now to jump in — and then do it soon, even if Biden remains in denial.

Senior party leaders — Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, Hakeem Jeffries — must discuss an intervention, just as their Republican predecessors 50 years ago broke the news to President Richard Nixon that the Watergate scandal would lead to his removal from office if he didn’t resign.

Continuing to run Biden, insisting all is well, is a grave disservice to the party and the nation, which looks weak to the rest of world at a time when it’s vital to project strength.

Get real and face reality: Joe’s only going to look unmistakably ever weaker.

Biden’s team may be in deep denial, but the rest of the party can’t afford to keep playing pretend: Find a fresh candidate before it’s too late.
