Lone college basketball fan storms court after Detroit Mercy snaps 26-game losing streak

The courtstorming was like no other!

A fan bravely stormed the court after the Detroit Mercy Titans men’s basketball team finally put an end to their 26-game losing streak defeating IUPUI (6-21, 2-14) Wednesday night 81-66.

Seconds after Detroit Mercy’s (1-27, 1-15 conf.) avoided extending the embarrassing streak — a lone Titans fan filled with emotion raised his arms after the buzzer and rushed the court at Calihan Hall in Detroit.

But when he looked back, there wasn’t anyone to join him in the festivities.

The Titans’ tumultuous season has been hit with nothing but losses, with the team being at the bottom of the Horizon League standings conference after IUPUI (6-21, 2-14 conf.).

The Titans were one of two programs in college basketball without a win this season — Mississippi Valley State has lost 24 straight games.

Fans quickly jumped to social media to react to the Titans ending their drought of 20 plus losses — and of course, the memorable court storming.

“Greatest court storm ever,” one fan joked on X

“That guy waited a long time to do that,” another user posted.

“Give him lifetime season tickets and concessions for free,” one person vouched for the fan showing school spirit.

“BETTER THAN THE PISTONS,” someone let out, referring to the 28-game losing streak the NBA’s Detroit Pistons eventually snapped earlier this season.

It’s not clear if the fan or the school will be disciplined for the brief invasion.

The NCAA, however, has cracked down on schools since Iowa star Caitlin Clark collided with an Ohio State fan celebrating the Buckeyes’ upset win on Jan. 21.

The Southeastern Conference fined South Carolina $100,000 after its fans rushed the court when the Gamecocks defeated No. 6 Kentucky three days after Clark’s incident.

Repeat offenders in the SEC will face a fine worth up to $500,000.
