Soccer superstar Kylian Mbappe has informed Paris Saint-Germain that he will leave the club at the end of the season when his contract expires, according to multiple reports.
He had informed PSG president Nasser Al Khelaifi that he would be leaving the team.
The departure is still being negotiated between PSG and an announcement isn’t expected to come for a few months after things are finalized, The Athletic reported.
Which will be his next club remains a mystery, but speculation has predicted Real Madrid as one of the clubs that could vie for the striker’s services once his time in Paris ends.
The Spanish club has not reached an agreement with the superstar and The Athletic reported that there could be other teams that pursue Mbappe.
Mbappe has been linked to Real Madrid since 2022, when he turned down an offer in order to extend his stay with PSG, but contact between the two sides has never died down.Â
It had been previously reported that Mbappe had been leaning toward the Spanish juggernaut when his contract with PSG ended.Â
Mbappe is widely considered to be one of the greatest players in the world and had spent the past seven years playing for Ligue 1 club.
Mbappe’s contract costs PSG $215 million per year.
He’s the latest superstar to leave one of France’s best-known soccer clubs, which includes global megastar Lionel Messi, who signed with MLS side Inter Miami last year and Neymar, who went to play for Saudi club Al Hilal. Â
While PSG had what would be considered a super team, they never managed to find the on-field success that many expected the trio to have.Â
PSG never reached the quarterfinals of the Champions League and were eliminated in the previous two years by Real Madrid and then Bayern Munich.
Mbappe did lead PSG to five French league titles during his time there.
