The Blue Jays are loading up on former Mets.
Toronto has agreed to a minor league contract with former Mets designated hitter Daniel Vogelbach, The Post’s Jon Heyman confirmed.
The deal, which comes one day after agreeing to terms with ex-Met Eduardo Escobar, includes an invite to major league spring training.
Vogelbach was first acquired by the Mets before the 2022 trade deadline from the Pirates and was non-tendered in November.
In his first 55 games with the Mets, Vogelbach quickly became a fan favorite as he hit six homers with an .830 OPS down the stretch as the Amazin’s booked their first trip to the playoffs in six years.
A selective hitter, he also drew 33 walks and piled up a .393 on-base percentage.
But things did not turn out the same way early in 2023 as Vogelbach hit just .175 in May and .200 in June as his OPS dropped to .690 in the first half of the year.
In early June, Vogelbach sat for nine days for what was called a mental break amid his struggles.
“I didn’t produce the way that I could’ve produced,” Vogelbach said after his return to the lineup. “At the end of the day, the name of the game is winning. If I’m not gonna do my part to help the team win, then somebody else can. That’s why you put in the work, and do what you can to help this team win.
“For me, it’s to have good at-bats, hit the ball hard, and drive the baseball in.”
He did turn things around with a strong second half, putting up a .245/.344/.481 line with eight home runs over the final 41 games.
But it was not enough as the Mets decided not to bring him back form 2024.
Toronto gets a player that has a selective eye (.342 career OBP) and mashes righties (.452 slugging percentage) but struggles immensely against lefties (.463 OPS) and ranks in the second percentile in sprint speed.
Almost exclusively a DH, Vogelbach last played five games at first base with Pittsburgh before the Mets trade.
