Alex Belzile picked up approximately $1,683 (pre-tax) by virtue of his recall from the AHL Wolf Pack to serve as a Rangers healthy scratch for Thursday’s 7-4 victory over the Canadiens at the Garden.
The 32-year-old winger, who had spent the prior four years in the Montreal organization before signing with the Blueshirts as a free agent, is on a two-way contract under which he is in for $775,000 at the NHL level and $450,000 in the AHL.
The contract becomes a one-way deal next season.
“He was recalled because he’s had a really good year in Hartford,” head coach Peter Laviolette said of Belzile, who leads the Wolf Pack with 37 points (14-23). “He’s played well, but we haven’t gotten to see him much.”
Belzile is the eighth forward recalled from the Wolf Pack at some point this season following Jonny Brodzinski, Adam Edstrom, Brennan Othmann, Jake Leschyshyn, Riley Nash, Matt Rempe and Anton Blidh.
Rempe did not get into a game while Blidh, Leschyshyn and Riley each played one.
Othmann played three while Brodzinksi played his 35th and Edstrom his third NHL match in this one against the Habs.
Jonathan Quick recorded his fourth straight victory in getting his first start since Feb. 7.
Igor Shesterkin, who has won his last three and is coming off a 2-0 shutout of the Flames at the Garden on Monday, is slated to get the assignment in Sunday’s outdoor game at MetLife against the Islanders.
Quick, who surrendered four goals on 35 shots, is 13-4-2.
Adam Fox recorded four assists for the second time in his career, joining Brian Leetch (6 times) and Brad Park (5) as the only defensemen in franchise history to post four assists in multiple games.
Blueshirts and defenseman Brandon Scanlin have reached an agreement on a two-year, two-way contract extension.
The 24-year-old lefty, whom the Rangers signed as an undrafted free agent out of Nebraska-Omaha in 2022, had recorded 14 points (7-7) in 43 games for the AHL Wolf Pack.
Scanlin’s extension is for a $775,000 NHL salary each year, with the AHL number increasing from $200,000 to $225,000 for Year 2. Scanlin is guaranteed $250,000 per.
Officials immediately waved off Brandon Gignac’s “goal” at 3:29 of the first period for playing the puck with a high stick, but the winger celebrated with the train at the bench nonetheless.
