Hideki Matsuyama’s insane comeback at Genesis wins golf bettor $103,000

Hideki Matsuyama rode a furious comeback to victory at the Genesis Invitational, and one bettor must’ve been reading Michael Leboff’s Post Action Betting story on the tournament.

They put down a 75/1 pre-match bet on Matusyama to win at Riviera Country Club, with a $1,350 bet paying out $102,600 in a wild comeback victory.

Matsuyama was as high as 200/1 to win it all going into the final round Sunday, but an impressive nine-under 62 showing Sunday catapulted him to victory.

The Post-Action’s Leboff predicted the victory prior to the tournament, saying he was playing on a “course that clearly fits his game.”

The stunning win was fueled by a wild charge on the back-nine as he went bogey-free in his nine-under par afternoon showcase.

Matsuyama was six strokes back heading into Sunday, and he finished -17 for the tournament, way ahead of Will Zalatoris, -14, who came in second place.

Meanwhile, Canada’s Adam Hadwin would’ve been the story of Sunday had Matsuyama not put up such gawdy numbers.

He ended at -6, the second-best round of the day, and just one stroke back of second place.

The victory from Matsuyama continues the run of wild long shots to continue their momentum in the 2024 PGA Tour.

LIV Golf snagging some of the worlds best golfers has forced the mid-tier golfers into a place that they can win on any given weekend.

Long shots have been the story, as prior to this weekend, there have been five consecutive winners with at least 100/1 pre-tournament odds.

Matsuyama is now the leader with max odds of a winner at 80/1 on FanDuel (it was 75/1 on DraftKings.)
