Noteworthy items during the Yankees’ spring training practice on Tuesday in Tampa:
Still got it
A new-look Giancarlo Stanton still has some thump.
The slimmed-down DH, annually a Statcast darling with his high exit velocities, hit a rocket to the right-center field wall in live batting practice against right-hander Dennis Santana.
Noise violation
Santana has opened some eyes early in camp, but was on the wrong end of some loud contact from Stanton and Alex Verdugo during his two innings of work.
Caught my eye
Hal Steinbrenner and Brian Cashman made an appearance on the field during a break in a live batting practice session, chatting it up with their new superstar Juan Soto.
That relationship will bear watching this year as the Yankees try to make a strong impression on Soto with his free agency looming next offseason.
Wednesday’s schedule
Gerrit Cole is scheduled to throw live batting practice on the second day of full-squad workouts.
