As the Eagles secured former Giants running back Saquon Barkley and ex-Jets edge rusher Bryce Huff on Monday as the free agency negotiating window opened, the Cowboys’ relative silence spoke volumes, particularly to the brother of the team’s starting quarterback, Dak Prescott.
“So, if it wasn’t clear already, it is now. The @Eagles have the best front office in the NFL,” Tad Prescott wrote Monday on X, along with the hashtag, “How bout them Cowboys.”
Tad later re-shared a message reflecting on Monday’s moves, notably the Eagles luring Barkley to Philadelphia for a three-year deal worth $37.75 million.
“It’s a lot of movement going on in the NFL today… saquon to the eagles is crazyyyyyyy lol,” the message read.
While the Eagles added key pieces to their roster, the Cowboys saw last season’s starting running back, Tony Pollard, go to the Titans on a three-year, $24 million deal as players at the running back position continued to fly off the board.
Center Tyler Biadasz also left Dallas on Monday, agreeing to a three-year, $30 million deal with the rival Commanders, with defensive lineman Dorance Armstrong following suit on a three-year contract from Washington worth $45 million.
Though Tad’s posts on X echoed the frustrations of some Cowboys fans, Stephen A. Smith — who has long loathed the fanbase — said Tuesday he’s heard enough from Prescott’s sibling.
“Tad Prescott… shut the hell up,” Smith said Tuesday on ESPN’s “First Take.”
“… When you make a comment like that about the Philadelphia Eagles, knowing it’s going to be received publicly throughout the football world, what you’re basically saying is, it’s not my brother’s fault. Dammit, your brother has something to do with it.”
Prescott and the Cowboys came up short once again in the postseason, with the 30-year-old quarterback throwing three interceptions in a 48-32 wild-card loss to the Packers.
Owner Jerry Jones told reporters at the Senior Bowl in January that he “would anticipate” the team being “all in” for 2024.
“I would anticipate we will be all in at the end of this year,” Jones said, according to Cowboys reporter Nick Harris (via NFL.com).
“… It will be going all in on different people than you’ve done in the past. We will be going all in. We’ve seen some things out of some of the players that we want to be all in on. Yes, I would say that you will see us this coming year not build it for the future. It’s the best way I’ve ever said. And that ought to answer a lot of questions.”
One of the posts re-shared by Tad referenced Jones’ “all in” mantra, with the message from the Blogging The Boys X account reading: “Name a bigger lie than ‘all in’ you can’t.”
The Cowboys have since re-signed long snapper Trent Sieg, according to reports on Tuesday.
